History of the Concert Corps

How many good things come from simple conversation?  Well, the past couple of years have been full of 'em.  Today, we'd like to tell you about one in particular...

We were at a picnic table outside of The Timberland Company talking about how to change the world.  High energy.  Lots of ideas thrown around.  That kinda' convo.

What stuck was the thought that music is a powerful force in people’s lives - just as much as our desire to live on a cleaner, more humane planet.  So why not combine them?

There is a long history of overlap already, from songs of revolution in the 1960’s to modern day, socially-conscious artists and organizations - all working to bring a level of consciousness to the scene, strenthen local communities, and affect positive change across the country.

But how about the fans?  Certainly we aren’t the only music lovers who want to make the world a better place.  Why not start an organization dedicated to mobilizing the desire of fans to make a positive difference?  So we did.

We're working for the day when music fans all know the issues that are most important to their favorite artists.  Better yet, we're working for the day when fans are serving side-by-side with artists to make change on those issues.  We're beginning to see it happen here and there, but the surface is just barely being scratched.

Good things start from simple conversations.  Great things happen when thoughtful, committed citizens decide that they're going to change the world.  We're lucky to be surrounded by fans, aritsts, and organizations committed to changing the world.  We are honored to serve alongside them and we invite YOU to join us!

THE FOUNDING CONCERT CORPS

16 idealistic City Year New Hampshire members met after hours during their 2005-2006 corps year to lay the foundation for what would become the Concert Corps.

After leading 25 String Cheese Incident fans in a beach cleanup and a food drive for Jason Mraz, the Concert Corps received a 2006 Bill & Hillary Clinton Innovation Award and never looked back.

The Concert Corps used their grant to hit the road with Reverb on the Campus Consciousness Tour featuring Guster, leading the band and their fans in service, volunteer workshops, and recruiting at each show for both City Year and upcoming local service projects.

The Founding Concert Corps is... Meghan Collier, Lyric Cox, Eric Funk, Angela Garcia, Courtney Hosking, Shannon Keirans, Bobby Kessling, Jules Mathis, Aisha Mitchell, Scott Myers, Erik Obermiller, Cesar Sertzen, Becca Thomson, Mike Wallach, Jason Whitehead, Matt Wilhelm, and honorary members Jen Hallee & Ed Asamoah (CYB).
